Had a great day of fishing out with first timers Michael and his son Michael II from Baton Rouge.  It was a birthday present for Michael II and he had never felt the fight of a reel screaming red.  Started out the day with a howling north wind and muddy water.  After a few stops looking for trout with not much going on we decided to give little Michael a chance to feel the fight of his first red and puppies and boy did he have a blast with him catching a 4lb., 5.5lb. and an 8lb.  Once he got a taste of that there was no turning back.  The guys were a pleasure to fish with and both had that never give up attitude.  It was great to give the guys what the wanted and create some long lasting memories that will last a lifetime for both father and son and for myself to introduce first timers to Hopedale/Delacroix and our great fisheries.

You still have time to get in on the great fishing for the spring/summer with my wintertime pricing and I still have some openings for the up coming months.  If you book before May 1 I will still give you the price through the summer.  So check me out at www.BacklashFishingCharter.com for rates, directions, and lodging.

Check out Michael's first reds

Yesterday I had the pleasure of fishing with Dewayne and Kelly for a fun day in Hopedale.  After getting a later start than normal (watching the weather) we headed out with lots of clouds and cooler temps.  After hitting a couple spots catching scattered fishing and Kelly catching one monster head we headed over to Delacroix to try our luck.  With the sun coming out and warming up we starting catching fish on flats near deeper water.  Before I knew it we had 55 trout catching all on live Campo’s shrimp under a cork.  We decided to try for a couple reds for the grill.  We started fishing a couple points and ended up with 4 reds and a couple more heads.  Width the sun getting low we decided to head in and call it a day.

The fall fishing is in full swing and the trout and reds are eating up.  It is a great time to get out on the water.  I have some openings left in the up coming weeks.  With cooler temps and shorter runs to the fishing it is a great time to get out and fill your freezer.

Today I had a great day out on the water with Mr Charlie from north La.  He came down by himself to enjoy some great fall fishing action.  The weather was perfect and the trout bite was on with an easy limit coming by 8:30 a.m. with us catching and releasing many, many more all ranging from 12 to 20 inches. We fished for reds catching 1 and missing several.  We decided to call it an early day and head in.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of fishing with Eddie, Matt, and Brad.  Matt Being from Ohio had never experienced the Hopedale/Delacroix fall bonanza before.  WE headed out just before sunup and had 55 trout in the boat before 7a.m.  So we headed out to try our luck with the reds.  They were scattered but we managed to catch 7 with a few puppies mixed in.  As we were headed in through lake robin the birds were working so we stopped to finish out our limit of trout.  Our day ended with 93 trout, 7 reds and 3 puppies.  Most all of the trout was caught on Campo’s shrimp under a cork with the reds caught on dead shrimp against the bank.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of fishing with Stan, his wife Leslie, their son Logan and their father-in law Mike.  Stan was the winner of my Tony Nata fishing tournament giveaway this past June.  The day started of cold and clear and water temp of 52 degree and a low tide.  So we headed out to Lake Robin to see the day had in store for us.  We fished a few birds picking up a few schoolies.  The wind started picking up so we headed back into the marsh to fish the drains and deeper water.  The trout were scattered but getting better as the day progressed.  We ended the day with 65 trout up to 22 inches, 1 red, and 1 puppy.  All the fish was caught on live Campo’s shrimp under a cork and tight lined on the bottom.  The gang had a great time with all catching great fish.

This week I had the pleasure of fishing with a great client Richard who has been with me several times in the past months and his buddy Jimmy.  The day started off as usual with a cool brisk breeze coming from the east and a cool temperature.  We headed out to fish the exterior marsh and bays to see what the day had in store for us.  Fishing the islands we caught some great reds and trout with Campo’s live shrimp under a cork.  We ended the day with 75 trout most “16 to 22” and 9 reds with 2 being bulls.

I am back in full swing and have several days open in up comming months.  So if you are looking for a fun no nonsense great day on the water in one of the most exciting times in the year give me a call and get your day booked.

Hey everyone,

Just got a chance to sit down and write a report. What an awesome week we had for fishing and it is seaming only to get better.

It all started Friday with Wayne; James and Randall from Alabama for a two day fishing smack down.  We started the day fishing the exterior islands looking for a quick bite but came up with only small trout so we moved out and started fishing some rigs and the bite was on.  Shrimp under a cork was the ticket with several caught on artificals and croakers.  We finished day one with 95 Black Bay beauties and several reds to finish up.

Day 2 was the weather was nothing to be desired.  Strong northwest wind and choppy sea turned the bay upside down. But we decided to head out where we left them the day before.  We got there to  find muddy water and 2-4 ft. waves. We were there so we fished it.  I dropped anchor and immediately we caught several quality trout, so we stuck it out.  It was tough fishing with us taking several large waves over the bow but the trout were still there.  After sever minor adjustments in the area we decided we have had enough and headed in with 65 trout in the 2-4lb. range with one tipping the scale over 5lbs. what a beauty.

Day 3 Monday We headed out again into the bay to find once again to find strong westerly wind and rough seas.  I had with me Peter sr. Peter and Allen from Jackson. Ms.  After trying several rigs and reefs with hardly any fish I decide to go find some calm clear water so we headed into the marsh.  We caught lots of small trout and ended up with 45 keeper trout.  We decide to go try our luck on the reds and it worked,  After working the shallow pockets with shrimp under a cork the boys caught 12 reds and 4 puppies in short order with us seeing every fish before they caught them, we called it a day.

Day 4 Tuesday Got off to a late start with all the bad weather in the area.  After waiting it out and leaving the dock after 8 am.  I headed out with Richard and his 2 sons John and Gerard. Ages 11 12.  Decided to to makea shorter run with all the weather and catch some smaller trout and to see what the weather was going hand us.  After getting set up the rain and wind hit us again, but after a brief period the weather gave us a break and cleared up.  I decided to head out to the bay and check it out.  On the first stop was our only stop.  The guys landed 75 nice trout on shrimp under a cork and plastics.  With the best catch happening right in the middle of the action.  Gerard hooked up and landed a 35lb. bull red.  After a 30 minute the monster finally gave up and came into the boat.  What a fish.  With John catching a giant trout tipping the scale at 4 lbs.  We headed in to catch reds but came up short so we called it a day

To get in on this action and have a great worry free fishing day give me a call and book your trip today.  I still have several days open in the up coming month and with many captains to work with we are sure to get your party on the water.

Trout, Trout, Trout, and that is all i have to say about that.  The fishing is red hot and only getting hotter in the sound.  With fast bird action for numbers of specs or white trout, and big trout being caught around the rigs or reefs the possibilities are endless.  This weekend i had a great time fishing with family from Houston.  Joey, Steward, and Hayden came over with high hopes of seeing what Southeast La. fishing was all about, and to see if i had been telling them the truth about all of the fish we catch here, so the pressure was on.  We started of Saturday fishing an area i have been working for a couple days and it was on the crew caught fish like nobodys business before i kew what it there was 70 trout in the boat and the sun wasn't hardly up yet.   So we rode around and and tried to catch some reds.  With not much red action and clouds on the horizon we headed in early to enjoy the day at home.

Sunday we decided to go back out and chase some reds and what ever else we could catch.  The red fishing was a littel slow but as usual the trout were eating up.  we ended the day with another 47 trout with a easy limit in our sight we left them for another day and 8 reds most being in 20-27 inch range.

So come out and enjoy a worry free day on the water while the fishing is red hot.  Call and book your trip today and let the fun begin.

I recently received a call from Richard Cook looking to book a trip to bring along his two sons Gerard and John age 10 &11 for a good time on the water and to introduce them to the hard fighting salt water side of fishing.  So we headed out on tuesday morning only to run into a few thunder storms brewing in Black Bay.  After movering around them and letting the water calm down i decided to go try some rigs since there was hardly any tide movement that day.  We tried several rigs only to catch 1 red and a couple of small trout.  With the temp getting hotter and the boys patient starting to get thin "mine to"icranked up the opti max to run a littel further out and found a rig that had some clean water around it.  After a few minutes the boys were reeling in 28" to 30" bull reds.  after releasing most and keeping a couple the trout statred eating up fishing with croakers on the bottom the boys got into the game catching a total of 36 trout ' all 2-4 lbs. and keeping 3 bulls and a coulple of rat reds" a box full"  With the weather starting to build up again and the hardheads moving in we decided to head in and call it a day.  Those two boys will never be the same.

The summer time bite is here and the big trout are being caught so book your trip today and get in on the action before it slips by.  (985) 285-5014

Hello everyone,

Finally got a good day to be on the water.  With all the bad weather and some personal obligations to contend with i headed out with a friend to check out what was going on in the fishing world.  What a day it  was, the trout and redfish bite was fantastic, they were hitting everything you could throw at them.  We started out in lake fortuna and then out in lake Eloi and into to the La marsh.  We saw birds working everywhere on large schools of shrimp and shinners in the outer bays and out into Black bay area. With some respectfull fish in the 12-16 inch range with a few throw backs mixed in, how fun it was to fish like that again.  With no wind and calm water we started working some shore lines on the outer islands and had a great bite on some real quality trout throwing topdogs and hybrids under a popping cork.  The reds were just as agressive and working the banks hard with us catching just about everyone we could see on spoons, spinners and grubs ranging from 16 inches to some over 30 inches.

We caught trout just about everywhere we fished with us catching a our limit easily "most being caught and released" just kept a few for the freezer. With a little help from mother nature it truely is going to be a great fish cathing summer.

So call and get your trip today(985 285-5014) i still have some open trips in May, however they are starting to go fast.  With several boats and lodging available i am sure to get you on the water.

Thanks,

Hey everybody, yesterday i had the day off and with the weather getting better i went out for a day on the water with some good friends of mine to check out some new areas and the bite was on the big trout were going crazy.

The action was the best i seen since last spring and the fish are everywhere.  We caught lots of big fish with several in the 4 lb. range with most in the 2 to 3 lb. range.

The red action is also just as good now with several in the 15 - 20 lb. range (most caught and released. The top water action was awesome. Lots of fish came from tightlining swim baits off of the banks.

With the full moon on us the bite will be great for a while now.  So book your trip now i still have some openings for the rest of the month and come enjoy this great bite going on now.  (985) 285-5014.  With many boats at our disposal we are sure to get you on the water.

Thanks and good fishing

Today I had a special opp. to go fishing with Chris, Shawn, Steve (M&B) Christine and Amy (Southside ladies); and Capt. Anthony Dudenhefer of Mardi Gras Charters.  It was a beautiful day to be on the water, lots of sunshine and no bugs.  We headed out to the hopedale side and found lots of muddy water extending out into the Black Bay area.  With a mixed bag of reds and trout they were scattered but catchable.  Lots of small trout were caught with keepers mixed in.  Working the smaller bays with dead shrimp along the bank seemed to work the best for the reds with several in the 15 lb. range.  The trout were hitting grubs under a popping cork glow, chartrues and bay side shrimp off of the banks was working where bait was visible.  Even with the muddy water and the transitions of the last cold front things are starting to change for the good.  If you are looking for a great day on the water and some good fish action give me a call and book your trip today.  (985) 285-5014 or drop me a e-mail at capt.nathan@yahoo.com.  With up to 10 boats available we are sure to get you on the water.

Hello everyone and welcome to the new Marsh and Bayou website.  First I would like to thank Chris, Jason and the rest of the gang for putting together such a great website that I a glad to be a part of.   With their on the nose articles they prove that they are truely devoted to the outdoors men and women of this great state.

Reds, reds, reds.......   With a slow trout bite the reds are showing signs of life.  Trolling the banks of the inner and outter bays with spoons and spinners are generating some great action.  Soaking dead shrimp under a popping cork along the flooded banks is also creating red bites along with a few black drum mixed in.  The trout that are hitting white, glow and chartruese grubs under a popping cork near the banks.  With the full moon approaching and the anticipation of the bait due to show up any time the big trout should start showing up along the many rigs in the central and black bay area.  Start keeping your eye out for the flocks of birds sitting on the water on your way out to your favorite honey hole.  If you are looking to catch trout and reds and having a great time out on the water give me at (985) 285-5014 and book your trip today.  We have up to 10 boats to accommodate large parties.  Days are starting to go fast for the approaching summer slam we are so famous for, so get yours today.

Thank you and good fishing.
